Coming Soon: Revised and Illustrated Edition

At the start of the year, I wanted to try and work towards getting Sanctuary published physically.

When I first published Sanctuary, there was a part of me that knew it wasn't perfect. I wrote this novel in around two-three weeks. It wasn't during nanowrimo, but during a weird time in my life where I desperately needed escapism. I struggled a lot during the first edit, and I faced a lot of life hurdles at the time, which isn't an excuse but an explanation. I pushed it out to just be done with it. Being done was nice, but I certainly wasn't satisfied, and it did weigh on me. I'm not really in a position to pay for editors, but the money I did have went towards art. I really liked the cover art, done by CryptidComs, and the image of Leah, by Adabear_Art.

My original plans didn't work out quite how I had hoped. However, it did spark in me a desire to revisit the work.

Approaching the novel with a clearer head, I was able to catch a lot more of the issues that plagued this first published version. I am sorry, truly sorry, if this first version's issues ruined the reading experience in any way. I hope that this new version is much more appealing and easier to read. This isn't simply some line level changes, details were adjusted to reduce some repetition and increase clarity in the prose. I wouldn't say the alterations are significant to the plot or story as a whole, but if you enjoyed the story enough to want to revisit it, the changes will make the journey easier. If the issues before locked you out of continuing, hopefully, this version has squashed a lot of them, and you can give it a read with less distractions.

There will be new distractions though! Six new illustrations by Adabear_Art. I'm pretty excited for that, and I hope it will enhance some of my favorite moments from the story.

This new version of the story won't cost anything if you've already bought this story in the past. This is a free update. If, for whatever reason, you preferred the version before this revision that version will remain available. This newer version might still find its way into physical publication in the future. I'll keep this site updated with further info as it develops.

Ultimately, this novel isn't perfect. Editing can fix a lot of things, but the story is cut from a specific cloth. A rewrite might address some of my concerns, but I don't plan on doing that. While there may be some issues within it still, I have grown immensely as a writer since this book. I plan on moving forwards, trying new and different things with my work. And hopefully, if you enjoyed what I was doing at the core of this book, you'll come with me.

New projects will probably appear here on my Itch.io page before this new version is launched.
